lily has endured some tough times

Little Lily was rescued from City Critters. Her previous owners had been using her as a breeder -- horrifying always; especially weird because she's not a purebred. But according to her new owner, small dogs of any sort are in demand as breeders. She was dropped off at City Critters, along with a larger dog, because, the previous owners said, there was a fire in their house. These people later came back to retrieve the larger dog but left Lily. Thank goodness her lovely new owner (Amy, I believe?) scooped her up. Who could resist such a sweet little face?

Lily is likely a Chihuahua-something mix. Possible Min Pin or dachshund, but I am also wondering if maybe there is a little ferret in her. She is very nervous and discombobulated, very shy around people, but is apparently calming down and becoming more grounded day by day. The transition's going to be tough, but with such a kind new owner in her life, she's clearly now better off.

Julio and Paloma

These two schnauzers are named after Julio Bocca (seen here in black fur and shirtless, respectively) and Paloma Herrera (in gray fur and black getup), dancers in the American Ballet Theater. Dog Julio (who his own owner pronounced "not nice") bit the Muttropolitan Diarist's sleeve. Naughty Julio!

You'd look miffed too if you were an English bulldog with an Italian name.

two smalls

Oscar (top) and Cole (below). Them's some gay names; but then, what do you expect in Chelsea? Double-click on the image to enlarge and get a better look at Oscar's plaintive expression.

gumbo and mr. gumbo

In a perfect world, the man's jacket would be black, for more matching between dog and human, but even without that, they're pretty well paired.
